3D Printer Policy
3D Printer Policy
04/15/2026
Revised 06/10/26
The Oelwein Public Library provides access to a Bambu PS2 3D printer to the public.
Usage Guidelines:
· The library’s use of the printer takes priority.
· Only library staff will operate the 3D printer. Supervised use by the public may be allowed during educational programs or other library events.
· All print designs must come from Bambu’s MakerWorld online catalog. Patrons have access to all the free P2S compatible prints available on the MakerWorld online catalog.
· All printing must be completed while the library is open. Prints taking longer will be split over multiple days, if possible.
· 3D print requests will be printed in an order determined by library staff. Library staff take into consideration the print size and color when determining this order as well as estimated completion time.
· The library carries several PLA colors for printing but cannot guarantee a certain color. Prints can be made with a maximum of 4 color choices. Patrons may not bring their own filament for use in the 3D printer.
· If permission is given to submit .stl files for printing by flash drive, the patron is solely responsible for the creation and editing of design files. Prints cannot exceed the dimensions available on the printer. All files will be deleted from the system following the completion of the print request.
· All completed print jobs must be picked up within 14 days of printing. Any unclaimed jobs will become property of Oelwein Public Library, and no refunds will be issued.
· 3D print requests must not:
o Be in violation of any Oelwein Public Library policies.
o Be prohibited by local, state, or federal law.
o Be in violation of another’s intellectual property (i.e. be subject to copyright, patent, or trademark protection).
o Be obscene or otherwise inappropriate for the library environment, including but not limited to inclusion of profanity, suggested profanity, or otherwise inappropriate text or imagery.
o Be unsafe, harmful, dangerous, or pose a threat to the well-being of others.
§ This includes, but is not limited to, weapons such as knives, swords, and firearms or firearm components.

Cost:
The minimum cost to print is $0.50 for up to 30 minutes of printing with a cost of $0.25 for each additional 15 minutes of printing. Print times are determined by the estimated time given by the 3D printer or MakerWorld software.
· Printing times are rounded to the nearest 15-minute increment.
· Payment is due prior to printing.
· Printing designs are not guaranteed to come out as intended and can be affected by any number of variables. The library does not refund printing fees for completed items.
Disclaimers:
· The library reserves the right to deny use of the 3D printer or equipment for any reason.
· The library reserves the right to limit the number of print requests.
· The Oelwein Public Library assumes no responsibility for and makes no claims regarding the ability of any 3D printed item to be substituted for commercially available materials and parts or to be used in any way other than as a novelty item. It is the patron’s responsibility to determine whether a 3D printed item can be used for any specific purpose.
· In accepting 3D printed items from the Oelwein Public Library, the patron agrees to assume all responsibility for and shall hold the library harmless in any incident where use of a 3D printed item led to any harm or damage to persons or property.
· The Oelwein Public Library is not responsible for any damage, loss, or security of data arising from the use of its computers or network, nor for the functionality or quality of content produced on the 3D printer.
